I LOVE 3-day weekends! The boss-man let us out of work early on Friday unexpectedly and that was wonderful.
Like most people, I spent the weekend with family, at BBQ’s and watched some fireworks.
Here’s a video of the finale at a local HS that put on the Fireworks display near us :
It’s been abt 5 years since I last saw a firework show, a real one, not the illegal kind. (Fireworks are illegal here in NJ).
The fireworks at this show were better than I anticipated. The last show I saw was supposed to be timed to some music and that didn’t go off too well. They only shot off 1 firework at a time — and the finale was all of 10 seconds. Booooooo! This could be why I haven’t gone to any since then. At THIS showing, there wasn’t a lot of room to find a place to settle down in, b/c the fireworks themselves were taking place in the field at the HS. So we all had the perimeter to sit in. The Fireworks were sooo close they were LITERALLY Right above us. So close, in fact, that a bunch of people got up out of their seats and walked away b/c they were afraid to get hit. I thoroughly enjoyed the risk of it, mostly because no one got hurt. However, there were ambers raining down on us from time to time.
Undeveloped flat land gives view to some amazing illegal kinds of ‘shows’. I enjoy catching site of them, but this year I felt a little more perturbed. On a drive down a dark road between some farms, we passed a house that shot a rocket off (or maybe some sort of firecracker) and it barely missed our car! I can only imagine what would’ve happened if it were a few inches lower and if my window was open. What were the chances of that MISSILE being shot off the exact time our car passed by. We were literally the ONLY car on that road.
I used to be pretty OKAY with people shooting off their own fireworks at home, so long as it didn’t directly affect me…this was too much. TH and I were tempted to call the police and complain b/c we nearly had ourselves blown up. We didn’t b/c we didn’t even know where on the road we were…there is about 1 house every 1/4-1/2 mile…and we didn’t want to turn around. I know, I’m probably over reacting here, but we also had our 7 y/o niece in the car with us — and that’s just not fair.
Enough of my anxiety tapped story — on to happier times in my next post with some photos from this long weekend
