Our trip started out with a bit of good luck
We flew on American Airlines since we each had a $500 travel voucher for them. The round trip flights were $440.![]()
Our initial and connecting flights were both early and left early. We also got upgraded to 1st Class on our connecting flight and were served a 4 course meal… that was a nice treat
Here are some pics of the Denver Airport
American Airlines said since we booked with them we could get a ‘special rate’ if we booked a hotel through their referral service. So we said okay. They automatically connected us to Hotels.com … they gave us a decent rate and we took it. Later in the day I checked out hotels.com’s website and found a BETTER rate online than what they booked me on the phone!! WHAT?! – so I called them back and cancelled, and rebooked online w/a car rental from Hertz. (Usually I find Hertz to be the most expensive, but this time around it was the cheapest…huh)
When we picked up our car, they said they upgraded us from Economy to Compact – We wound up with a Toyota Corolla, and if that is bigger than the Economy class car, I can’t even imagine what we would’ve gotten… I think they just ‘say’ they upgrade you so you tell people they do that.
We stayed at the Renaissance Boulder FlatIron Hotel in Broomfield, CO (abt 25 mins from Denver). We got our hotel (4d/3n) and car for less than $400. The hotel was less than $100 a night… What a great deal, AND we got a mountain view.

The hotel was pretty snazzy, and I really liked the fun decor.

In the back you can see 3 small desks for checking in.

This bar was opposite of reception – to the left there was the Flatz Restaurant. (YUMMY!)

The view looking down from our room. We stayed on the top floor, so this is zoomed in.
Our car is the tiny red one on the bottom right.

Here is the view … zoomed in a little bit.
All in all, the commute to CO was pretty great. After we checked in a settled in for about an hour or so, we were on the road again to explore.
We went to Echo Lake, Mount Evans and Lookout Mountain – that’ll be my next Colorado Post.
