It’s that time of year, again…

– to paint closets.

B/c doesn’t everyone paint their closets every year during the summer??

No?!?!

hmmmmrrrfff, uuuuuuuh….??

*sigh*

… moving on …

I have always looked forward to the summer months, June-August, b/c growing up it was always the best time of the year. NO SCHOOL!!! But now that I’m at an age, where I’m no longer in school, I should stop getting excited. Really, I should. B/C what happens June-August now?? —

I still have to work EVERY DAY. It’s HOT out. On nice sunny breezy days, I’m couped up indoors WORKING until the evening, when the sun goes down, and then I get to drive in busiest-travel-time of the year traffic. In NJ everyone goes SOUTH … South to the beaches and the shore … Oooooh I get to drive that way, but destination is always HOME, where a 45 minute commute becomes nearly 2 hours long.

The rest of the year, I look forward to my weekends. Just chilling out and relaxing and doing whatever I really want to do. But the summer weekends are ALL BOOKED! They seem to get pre-booked somehow by BBQ’s, Holiday shin-digs, Birthdays, Graduation Parties etc… While I enjoy these occasions (especially when I don’t end up hosting) — I don’t get my relaxation days in. I feel like I’m always catching up on sleep and trying to fit in the important to-do’s, like … preparing for our babies arrival.

I am so MENTALLY overwhelmed, it’s ridiculous. I try to keep my thoughts organized and positive, but my anxiety gets the better of me. It’s a good anxiety though. While in the 1st trimester my mind was consumed by thoughts of an impending miscarriage, now it’s moreso — ‘when am I going to find the time to sleep!’

Ooooh how I used to take sleep for granted. I’ve been blessed by a new onset of Restless Leg Syndrome which is just the most annoying feeling in the world, and very active babies, who like to kick, punch, spin and stretch ALLLLLLLL day & night. No joke, there is rarely an hour that goes by when my body is not being attacked.  It is a good sign though — so I take it as that.

TH and I decided to add some to-dos directly onto our shared Google Calendar so that way, if someone wants us to do something one weekend, we can see if we have other personal to-do’s to work on first. It’s time to prioritize. While fixing the house in the past would’ve been thrown to the side in favor of attending a pool-party at the inlaws, that is no longer the case. If we don’t get the house stuff done now, the likely-hood of it being done during the first 6 months after the babies arrive, is slim-to-none.

This past weekend we had PAINT CLOSETS,  PAINT THE NURSERY and FATHER’S DAY.

Did we complete the list?? Ummm sorta. We didn’t paint the closets, but we did manage the other two. (I’ll add links to those posts once they are up).

Now back to my original statement. It’s time to PAINT CLOSETS!

It is a lot more fun than it sounds, but also a lot more difficult than I had imagined.

We have (2) double sliding door closets up in our loft. The loft that used to be a 3rd bedroom/guest room and a full size office for TH and I. The loft that will be transforming into a family room/den, play room, and office space … somehow.

Our first priority before moving den furniture upstairs is moving our current office setup (consiting of a large folding table, 2 desk chairs and all our computers (5) — into 2 functional closets.

Yes — closets.

The back portion of the loft (Guest Bed) ... Closets on either side.

There is no guest bed in the loft anymore — at least not the queen size. We have a daybed there now (which will eventually move) and we will be using the rest of the space as a play room.

The doors will be coming OFF the closets, and a tension rod and drapes will be hung to ‘hide’ our new found office spaces. The fun part comes in both TH and I getting our own spaces to do whatever we want with, b/c they can be closed off when we aren’t using them.

We get to think of themes and just go buck-wild … with the limited space we have, but it’s sooo much fun to personalize an area that we spend so much time in. We don’t have to agree on our decorating choices… just go with it.

I already know I’m going to do a girly lace/pink theme in my closet. But TH has spent DAYS (literally) looking up themes online. And honestly, there aren’t enough closet/office theme sites out there to reference. I suggested he do something with gaming, or make a dark office space. We will be putting lighting IN the closets, along with a mirrored area on the back wall to open the space up a little. (B/C staring at a wall — in a closet — for hours — is a little disturbing).

I’m happy he seems to be thinking seriously about what he wants to do, but there are certain restrictions/limitations, ie: space and time… I think he has a hard time visualizing the final product – realistically. It’s not easy. I realize that. But I think women generally have an easier time doing that than men. “it’s just paint!” — I tell him. And everything else is decoration. It can be added in over time. But the paint part needs to happen first.

We’ll see how the progress goes … maybe if I add in a FINAL date to paint the closets it will put a little bit of pressure on. is that mean??

I tend to hit less traffic in the summer without parents and buses driving kids to school in the morning, but I work south, so I’m heading north in the evening.

    enjoy decorating!
