35w3d today. JOY!!! On procardia until 36weeks (next wednesday) …
Contractions started getting heavy last night and this morning they were 5-6 mins apart for a few hours. Went to the hospital got admitted, contractions started coming every 2-3 minutes, painful, cramping etc… blah blah.
Dilated a little more to 2cm 50%effaced.
Stayed for 4 hours, took 2 dosages of procardia — contractions stayed constant, and more and more painful, yet no progression with dilating. So I’m officially still NOT in labor.
Talked to the OB in detail today about what the birthing plan will be. Though I know the docs aren’t typically supposed to sway you either way, (well I think they’re not supposed to)…. my doc came right out and said she HATES VAGINAL DELIVERY OF TWINS… wow. um okay.
Anyway, all the docs I spoke with seem to agree but word it a little differently. The deal is. If I want to attempt a vaginally delivery, I can. It’s my choice. But once the first baby is born, there will be lots of room for baby b … to move, or for the cord to come out, or for her to go into distress, at which point, I’d be getting a c-section to deliver her. Or, I could have a text book delivery for both, but I wouldn’t know until I got that far… after delivering one. And that puts Baby B at a possible higher risk.
And do I really want to go through labor and birthing 1 vaginally only to end up having a c-section right after? I was also told that the chances of me having an episiotomy since this is my first, is higher.
I know NJ has a high rate of c-sections and episiotomies… not saying it’s right for docs to be that way, but it’s true.
I am not one of those people that HAS to have a vaginal delivery. If I was only pregnant with one and the babe was in the right position, I would DEFINITELY want a vaginal delivery. B/c there isn’t a higher risk for the baby like there is with twins. I’m not scared of the pain. I know that vaginal delivery is quicker to recover from and also gets the hormones going to produce breast milk and start the bonding process. There are lots of benefits to that. Also squeezing the babe through the birth canal (yum, i know) — helps to get the fluid out of their lungs, as opposed to a doctor trying to suction it all out after a C-section.
I am not good with pain b/c of my fibromyalgia so I don’t really want surgery that I’m awake for. Surgery in the past I had doc said I reacted to pain. Also when I get a filling done in my mouth, I need at least 6 shots. Soooooo imagine my anxiety of being awake for a surgery that I just might feel. YIKES!!!
So the deal is, I will be having a C-section, once I dilate to 5cm, or my water breaks.
I was told not to eat anything big, b/c they generally like at least 6hours of no-eating beforehand. That’ll be a bit difficult to plan, considering I can’t predict if/when I’ll make it to 5cm. Yeah… so I just had a footlong sub from subway. B/c I hadn’t eaten in nearly 12 hours… Oh well!
With my history … being at 1cm for over 5 weeks, I think I won’t be going anyway until it is planned and scheduled.
Can’t wait for the babes to arrive already!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!!

I was talking to my mom on Saturday about C-sections. She didn’t believe me when I told her there are women who elect to have them when they don’t need to, lol. So I googled to find out why and most forum replies were from women like you and my mom who needed to have a c-section for various reasons, but a few piped up, or you know, talked about a “coworker” who elected to go with the surgery. the big reasons were fear and scheduling around their job. I would have thought stretching of their lady business to be #1, but whatever. <– crazy ladies
anyway, my mom had a c-section and I turned out just fine
Good luck with the not eating before hand thing. Really, they tell a woman pregnant with twins not to eat anything big? crazy talk
