Summer’s Ear

One of the things I didn’t like about our stay at the hospital post-c/section was the fact that the doctors waited until the MINUTE before we left (after 3 days) — to tell us that Summer had a problem with her right ear.

They do a hearing test on all newborns at the hospital where they put this device in the ear and it’s supposed to send a result back. It’s not like one of those machines you get hooked up to, have a sound emitted and then respond to the sound. Obviously, b/c they can’t exactly respond properly.

Her left ear passed and we had to ‘REFER’ on her right ear. Whatever that means, I didn’t understand at the time, but basically her left ear failed.

They reassured us that this does not mean that she is deaf in that ear, it could be because she was fussy or there was too much background noise… ugh.

So anyway, I had to schedule an appt back at the hospital to get her ear checked. Today is that appt. They told us to bring her over around 3pm and either have her be sleeping or hungry so we could get her calm when the test happens again.

Well, I have yet to be able to control the girls’ sleeping habits, so I’ll ‘try’ to get her hungry, but I don’t want her to be screaming for food. I’m sure I’m making it seem like it’s a bigger deal than it is, I just want her to be okay. Yanno??

So… that is my worry for now.

On a side note, I’m AMAZED at the amount of friends and acquaintances of mine who are pregnant or just had a baby. I guess it’s like when you want something you see it everywhere… maybe I’m just ‘noticing’ these things now.
